Nothing Helps Conquer Addiction Quite Like Distraction
Florida is a beautiful state! I had never been here until I arrived in February. Landed in Miami at 2pm, and as soon as I said I was from California my Uber driver sold me weed. I love Miami. My stay in Miami was a short 4 days. Fun fact! Miami has the lowest priced hostels of any city I have hosteled at in America.

It’s difficult for me to write this article today. I’m all up in my head! With thoughts! I’m like 20% stressed because I can’t seem to generate an income from any project that I do, but I’m mostly just thinking about a girl haha. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you – I think about a new girl every week. Have I told you I have major problems talking to girls? At least the ones I am attracted to. I used to think that no girls liked me or wanted to talk to me, but I’ve grown to find that most people treat me different than I expect [I wrote more and then deleted it. I’m trying to avoid talking shit]. I encourage you to open your mind to that statement. I try very hard not to blame my parents for my addiction, but I am sure that my relationship with my mother affects how I interact with women, and I am sure that my inability to talk to women plays a deep role in my addictions. Can you believe that? It took me a long fucking time to figure it out! It’s easier for me to grab the bottle and wallow than talk to girls! At 28 years old, I’m not sure I can ever change. I celebrate my sobriety on July 4th, but there is no day I celebrate my independence from anxiety. It makes me quite sad that I don’t act on my thoughts, but I guess that sadness hasn’t outweighed my fears yet. The scales will tip; they always tip. Here’s a life changing book about it.
When I look at my father, he is more scared to talk to women than almost anyone I’ve ever met! Is it genetic? Is it environmental? I didn’t spend a lot of time with my father growing up, so there’s no way he could have taught me about social interaction. That being said, I do remember the first time we went to McDonald’s and my father approached the counter with confidence. I was like…7, or 12, idek. But I remember thinking “Wow, normally he is scared to go to the counter, but today is different.” I wish I better understood that memory, but I still take it at face value. I only saw him every other weekend.
Does talking about myself help you with sobriety? My goals with this blog are two: The first is to distract people from their reality. Nothing helps conquer addiction quite like distraction. The Second is to inspire. Do I inspire you? I can’t lie, I think my words have more of an impact upon men, but if you are a women reading this and you are finding it to be a good distraction from your…addiction? Problems? Anything really ~ I’m glad you choose to read this blog. Women are different from men, this I know. I’ve met a lot of high functioning alcoholics…and I’m tempted to say I’ve met more women that are high functioning alcoholics then men. More men tell me things like I lost my house and my kids when I got my DUI, but more women tell me things like Nobody knows that I am here, but I took two weeks off because I need to get my drinking under control. Do you understand the difference? I fall into that second group, but I mostly speak to the first. I’ve spent a lot of time around alcoholics. If you don’t want to quit, you are not going to quit. That’s the beautiful thing about what I am doing here. If you don’t want to overcome your addiction, why are you reading this blog?

Everyday Sobriety Advice
I am a recovered alcoholic/drug addict, but I am not a qualified addiction counselor. To help other alcoholics/addicts achieve sobriety, I have created the mantra’s below. Although I call them “steps,” I believe that all four mantra’s should be recited in concurrence.
When the urge to drink alcohol or use drugs comes upon you, I suggest reciting these four steps, and then implementing an activity to “kill time” until your urge to use drugs/alcohol is less intense. I suggest you use ASMR videos to “kill time”

Below are the steps of admittance required for using The ASMR.Community Sobriety Program [ACSP] successfully.
Step 1: “Sobriety is a choice, and it is up to me to make the right choice.”
Step 2: “Not everybody will be able to achieve sobriety, but that knowledge does not prevent my success regarding sobriety.”
Step 3: “The urge to imbibe (substances that I know will prevent my success) is finite. Sometimes the urge will exist, sometimes the urge will not exist.”
Step 4: “Sobriety is not the same for everyone. Success is.”
I believe the steps I listed above are a complete, non-exclusionary list of all mental admissions needed to achieve your goals regarding sobriety.
Everybody’s definition of sobriety is different, but everybody’s definition of success is the same.

I mostly work with the application of ASMR, but there is a whole lot more to ASMR than using it to gain sobriety or fall asleep, including the history and the science of it.
