The ASMR Daily 37

For the second Pillow Talk, James Taylor Foster took a comfy seat on his giant pillow, and had a conversation with Melinda Lauw, the co-founder of Whisper Lodge, which she describes as “[It’s a] 90 immersive experience that happens in New York and LA, and it is conceptualized as a live ASMR spa.”

Live ASMR spa! I can get behind that. In fact, LIVE ASMR is going to be the future of wholesome ASMR, because when you do one-on-one ASMR session’s that are not live [at least from what I have heard from various asmrtists], you end up with some strange requests.

Let’s not forget! If we do not embrace the sexualization of ASMR, then the industry will become a race to the bottom. The YouTubers that sit in their underwear and do “ear licking” videos are not going to stop labeling themselves as ASMR just because we ask them politely, but I also don’t see those individuals as a threat to the stability of the industry as a whole.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…LIVE ASMR. To the rescue!

Since 2016, Whisper Lodge has held ten’s of sessions [I think there has been 16 WL sessions, but I am not sure the exact number], the first of which happened in New York during July of 2016. Melinda and co-founder Andrew Hoepfner started their venture with some simple experimenting: “We got a bunch of random objects and did [ASMR] things to each other.”

Andrew Hoepfner is the man behind House World, which is an immersive theater experience that predates Whisper Lodge. In fact, when Andrew held House World in New York, he triggered a bunch of people’s ASMR [at the time he didn’t know what that was], and it was that happenstance which led to his meeting Melinda, and their eventual opening of the first Live ASMR pop-up spa, appropriately called Whisper Lodge [imagine if they had called it Whisper Mansion (insert laughing-until-it-cries emoji)]

I watched Pillow Talk ep.2 on the Instagram story of @arkdesc, and it was unfortunately only available for 24 hours. Soon however, the video interview will be available for everyone to watch both here, and here, so I suggest you keep checking back everyday until the video becomes available for your viewing pleasure. It’s seriously chocked full of interesting observations about ASMR! She talks about how ASMR is a voyeuristic venture…and I totally agree, but I am not sure she meant that her live experiences are voyeuristic. HOWEVER! If you know me, then you know I believe the next revolution in the story of humanity will be the emotional revolution, and I believe much of that revolution will have to do with people becoming comfortable with sexuality. When I look at the history books, and see how sex has been treated as a taboo for…pretty much all of modern history…I start to wonder if we were really handling that situation correctly.

I am so excited for the future of Whisper Lodge, and it is an honor to write about them on this blog. Not-so-far down the road, I believe LIVE ASMR will be a really applicable tool in the recovery toolbox of alcoholics/drug addicts. The only hurdles will be readily available sessions, and discomfort with attending. I’ll take care of that second part.

Everyday Sobriety Advice

I am a recovered alcoholic/drug addict, but I am not a qualified addiction counselor. To help other alcoholics/addicts achieve sobriety, I have created the mantra’s below. Although I call them “steps,” I believe that all four mantra’s should be recited in concurrence.

When the urge to drink alcohol or use drugs comes upon you, I suggest reciting these four steps, and then implementing an activity to “kill time” until your urge to use drugs/alcohol is less intense. I suggest you use ASMR videos to “kill time”

Good luck, My Friend

Below are the steps of admittance required for using The ASMR.Community Sobriety Program [ACSP] successfully.

Step 1: “Sobriety is a choice, and it is up to me to make the right choice.”

Step 2: “Not everybody will be able to achieve sobriety, but that knowledge does not prevent my success regarding sobriety.”

Step 3: “The urge to imbibe (substances that I know will prevent my success) is finite. Sometimes the urge will exist, sometimes the urge will not exist.”

Step 4: “Sobriety is not the same for everyone. Success is.”

I believe the steps I listed above are a complete, non-exclusionary list of all mental admissions needed to achieve your goals regarding sobriety.

Everybody’s definition of sobriety is different, but everybody’s definition of success is the same.

If you are looking or more information about ASMR, I’ve found the best place to learn about the subject is ASMR University. Their information is accurate [to the best of my knowledge], and plentiful. I mostly work with the application of ASMR, but there is a whole lot more to ASMR than using it to gain sobriety or fall asleep, including the history and the science of it.
