The Sobriety Of Castles

I’ve been listening to The French Whisperer ASMR for longer than I’ve been listening to most asmrtists. His journey making videos began in November of 2013, and I started listening to ASMR in February of that same year. Hmm. I’ve always thought he had been making asmr longer than I have been listening to it, but today we find out different!

With 109k subscribers and 16 million views, it’s safe to say The French Whisperer is one of the Stars of ASMR. You will find this to be especially true if you ask other asmrtists about him, because I know he has inspired so many individuals to find their voices and start producing their own videos.

He inspired me.

As I walked out of alcoholism, The French Whisperer was by my side [along with many other asmrtists]. It feels like two lifetimes ago!, I was fighting that battle against alcoholism and addiction while living in the familiar territory of: My Grandparents Basement.

Reality is cruel. Reality is that I haven’t even been sober for two years.

When I say ‘it feels like 2 lifetimes ago’ I speak of the 2013-2015 period of my life. That was right before I discovered ASMR. After moving back home from living in the city of Milwaukee, I knew I had set myself up for long term failure…ooh la la.

After being back at my grandparents house for only a short amount of time, I came to admit that I had a serious problem with alcohol, and began seeking help through the internet. This was at the very beginning of 2013. As I said, I found ASMR in February of 2013, and I stumbled upon it while looking up ‘guided meditation’ on YouTube. Seeking guided meditations was my ‘first step.’

Many hours have been spent thinking: “I could have lived different; focused my mind instead of relishing in it.” Alas! What can ye do? Time is a one way trip down a dusty road!

The harder the lesson was for me to learn [and deal with], the harder it will probably be for you. Of course, you and I are different people, but either you’re an alcoholic or you aren’t;..and if you’re here strictly for the ASMR, we’re on our way to the Video Of The Day, I promise!

When it comes to internet research, I’ve founds roses growing in the desert. Does this mean roses really grow in sand? Nope. When it comes to the internet, one must remain constantly vigilant in regards to information bias. In the United States, it is not uncommon to meet somebody that does not believe the science behind vaccinations. This is a tragedy of the information age, and it is due to information bias.

In 2013, I dove deep into the internet, melting and molding with it. The terminator was Governor of California; I was convinced I could do anything. – Get sober without a program? Even though everyone that cared about me said it would be impossible? ‘Yeah, I can do that.’ – Simple statements like that have power. Power I tell you! Optimism and Oomph are the only things required to succeed when you want to get sober. Once you arm yourself with those weapons, you are a solider in the war for happiness.

Happiness and War might seem oxymoronic, but if you view the definitions linked previously, you will see that neither word is defined to be constant. Happiness will never be constant, just as war will never be constant, but for the history of all humanity we have quested after both. Neither happiness nor War have ever existed without conscious effort from one or more humans. Because of this, I conclude that War is just as moral as Happiness, but it is only when we make both ventures ethical thru-n-thru [that would be a great name for a fast food restaurant] that the world will take it’s next step toward enlightenment. But wait, it gets better!

Forever we have thought that ending all wars was the answer to bringing about world peace, but! I believe that it will be not be avoiding War, but only by seeking Happiness that we will arrive at the coveted World Peace [we might have to change how we define ‘peace‘ as well].

It is of personal belief that the most boring, predictable, and gratifying path to Happiness is through financial freedom.

Once individuals have financial freedom, they will have more time. They will use this time to talk; to think. Individuals with financial freedom will use their spare-time to discuss life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These days, folks discuss such things online.

When a group of individuals chooses war as a means to achieve happiness, is that war not justified? The #BlackLivesMatter movement is a war against hatred. Hate is not constant either, but damn if there isn’t a large portion of people on this planet that invest their lives in hate.

The ladies from @karensgoingwilds don’t just hate people of color, they’re in hate with them!

I digress…Current events are important, but right now I must to focus on helping alcoholics and addicts achieve freedom from their vices. I believe freedom from vices can be achieved concurrently to financial freedom. Perhaps that the path to financial freedom lies with you learning a new skill? Hmm, and learning a new skill would also be a mighty good distraction from addiction…and then when you aren’t warring to earn your spot in this world through the medium of learning a new skill, you must find happiness and inner peace so you can continue to function at your best. This is especially true for those that risk falling back into addiction! You must keep your schedule full [and a schedule full of ASMR is just fine!].

Achieving sobriety is very basic: You must forgo immediate satisfaction in order to propagate long term satisfaction. The practicality however is a bit different.

I deduce that addicts are savants for living in the moment, and I believe if they as individuals can harness this power, they can achieve enlightenment fast and efficiently. If you are unfairmilar, enlightenment is the first step toward prolonged satisfaction, not the last step, as it is often thought of as.

Am I digressing again? I think both of us ended up with way more than we bargained for with this Video Of The Day article. In truth, I just wanted to let you know about this relaxing, informative video about Castles and their history. If you are craving a drink right now, I encourage you to watch this entire video before taking that drink, and who knows! Maybe in an hour, you won’t even feel like drinking anymore! That’s just how it goes sometimes. Seriously.

Everyday Sobriety Advice

I am a recovered alcoholic/drug addict, but I am not a qualified addiction counselor. To help other alcoholics/addicts achieve sobriety, I have created the mantra’s below. Although I call them “steps,” I believe that all four mantra’s should be recited in concurrence.

When the urge to drink alcohol or use drugs comes upon you, I suggest reciting these four steps, and then implementing an activity to “kill time” until your urge to use drugs/alcohol is less intense. I suggest you use ASMR videos to “kill time”

Good luck, My Friend

Below are the steps of admittance required for using The ASMR.Community Sobriety Program [ACSP] successfully.

Step 1: “Sobriety is a choice, and it is up to me to make the right choice.”

Step 2: “Not everybody will be able to achieve sobriety, but that knowledge does not prevent my success regarding sobriety.”

Step 3: “The urge to imbibe (substances that I know will prevent my success) is finite. Sometimes the urge will exist, sometimes the urge will not exist.”

Step 4: “Sobriety is not the same for everyone. Success is.”

I believe the steps I listed above are a complete, non-exclusionary list of all mental admissions needed to achieve your goals regarding sobriety.

Everybody’s definition of sobriety is different, but everybody’s definition of success is the same.

If you are looking or more information about ASMR, I’ve found the best place to learn about the subject is ASMR University. Their information is accurate [to the best of my knowledge], and plentiful. I mostly work with the application of ASMR, but there is a whole lot more to ASMR than using it to gain sobriety or fall asleep, including the history and the science of it.
